Engage All Into Sports Organisations

Objective

During the last years, AICS has been working to provide services in the field of migration:

• management of 4 refugees centers
• delivery of sport, cultural and voluntary activities
• training courses
• national campaigns

Starting from this experience and expertise, AICS aims at moving a step forward designing a project with the main objective of promoting integration and social inclusion of refugees through developing their active engagement into grassroots sport organizations as leaders. The project will be carried out in 10 cities of 5 Regions (Toscana, Campania, Lazio, Veneto and Emilia Romagna) and, according to a methodology based on the assumption of promoting an active role in the community through the development of leadership skills in sport, it implements a training program, with classes and training on the field sessions, addressed to 100 refugees and 50 Italians in order to actively engage them in many possible leading/coordinating positions:

• coach
• referee
• official
• sport event planner

During the training on the field, refugees will become active through the engagement of other refugees (50) to design and organize sport for all events in each city (10). To achieve an objective of social cohesion and to guarantee the mentoring of sports leaders, a specific training program will be also addressed to managers and trainers (40) of sports organizations involved at local level, developing intercultural skills. Through this double-engagement strategy, the project will be able to achieve the fully engagement of refugees and host communities thus promoting social cohesion of community through sport. The skills developed by the trainees and the sport events will be evaluated and will impact on the capacity of refugees to be involved as leaders in the sport sector. Through activities and dissemination at national and European level, the project will reach approximately 6000 people.
