Padel is a game derived from tennis and a relatively young discipline at the CSIT WORLD SPORT GAMES (second time). Padel is widespread in Spain, the country where it was invented, and in Latin America, but it is also very popular in many other countries at the moment. The strongest teams in the xPadel Playground of Corinth come from Catalonia and Italy. But six other countries are also getting involved. Including Mexico, although the strongest player (Christian Orduña) is not allowed to take part because he is a professional and therefore only allowed to compete in tennis (see tennis news). The matches are played exclusively in doubles. “The technique is easier to learn than the one in tennis. The game is therefore suitable for everyone and has replaced other trend sports such as squash in Italy, for example,” reports tournament director Mauro Marino. “Padel is developing very quickly.” Courts are springing up like mushrooms in his home country. The young sport is also on the rise in Greece: “The facilities are very good, everyone is helpful and flexible. We are grateful and very happy with our hosts.”
