FICS fixes it for the fifth time
CSIT WSG2025 Loutraki
The healing hands of the specialists from the International Federation of Sports Chiropractics - or Fédération Internationale de chriropractique du Sport (fics.sport) - are in action for the fifth time at the WSG. The collaboration between FICS and CSIT is therefore celebrating its tenth anniversary (premiere in Lignano in 2015). A total of 25 specialists from 14 nations from all over the world will be working at ten competition venues. There is a very well-functioning international network for this. “We had other applications,” reports the head of the team, Tim Ray, from the USA. “But unfortunately we couldn't take them all with us.” The 70-year-old man from Detroit, who lives in Connecticut, has been leading the FICS team in the WSG from the very beginning. “We put together teams for each venue that complement each other well,” he says. “All the chiropractors have a lot of experience in their work, but for some, Loutraki is their first major event.”
The whole equipe also includes five researchers who are scientifically analyzing all the new experiences and incidents. The spectrum ranges from minor aches to serious injuries. “In acute cases, we naturally leave the field to the ambulance and the hospitals.” However, there are situations in which the chiropractors are the first to recognize that a treatment is an acute emergency. There has already been such a case in Loutraki with American football. This often involves recognizing concussions, but in the current case it was a broken bone. “Sometimes the question arises as to how we differ from the physiotherapists,” Tim Ray continues. The answer is complicated, which is why he makes a relatively simple suggestion: “For us, it's more about direct joint function and muscle manipulation. A little less about long-term exercises.” Even though chiropractors are still not 100% recognized in some countries, the course is set for a successful collaboration in the future of WSG. Sometimes with small losses: “One massage table collapsed,” laughs Tim. “No wonder with the giants we have to treat by the football field.”
