CSIT World Sports Games are heading north 2027 to Aalborg
After three editions of the CSIT World Sports Games in southern European Mediterranean countries, CSIT 2027 is going the other way again. Aalborg has been awarded the contract for the 2027 Games and is already preparing for the CSIT's flagship event, the CSIT World Sports Games 2027, which will take place from June 8-13 in Denmark. After two years of intensive discussions and negotiations this marks an important new chapter in the history of CSIT, as the Games will be hosted in Scandinavia for the first time. This decision represents a strategic move and a fresh direction.
To have the WSG 2027 in Denmark highlights the CSIT’s commitment to diversity and the desire to reach new regions and audiences. The CSIT and its President Bruno Molea are very pleased with this decision and look forward to the World Sports Games 2027 in Aalborg. “I warmly thank the Municipality of Aalborg for its strong attention to CSIT and for the trust placed in us. Aalborg is a city with extensive experience in European and international sporting events, and from the start we have enjoyed excellent cooperation and clear commitment from the local authorities. This constructive partnership has brought us to signing of the Host Contract. We are confident that the 2027 Games in Aalborg will be a wonderful and successful festival for all CSIT athletes, families, and participants. The enthusiasm and professionalism already shown assure us that this will be an unforgettable event”, stated Bruno Molea after the signing of the contract.
Strong commitment of the Mayor
There were more than half a dozen interested candidates for hosting the World Sports Games 2027. Over time, Aalborg stood out more and more clearly as the favourite. One of the decisive factors was the strong commitment of Aalborg's mayor, Lasse Frimand Jensen, who was re-elected in November and clearly expressed his enthusiasm and support for hosting the Games. ”We are very excited to be the host city of the CSIT World Sports Games in 2027. Aalborg expanded and thrived during the industrialisation of the 1800s. Workers has played a very important role in the history of Aalborg and making the city what it is today. In Aalborg’s recent years we have successfully hosted large events and found a special delight in multisport events where the city really can come into play,” a thrilled mayor of Aalborg Lasse Frimand Jensen explains and continues: “CSIT World Sports Games is a fantastic event that celebrates tolerance, respect, sustainability & fair play. It is the perfect event to bring together those elements with Aalborg’s strengths. We are very much looking forward to cooperating with CSIT in arranging a spectacular event that will bring people together”.
All important locations within close distance
Aalborg’s reputation as Denmark’s leading sports city and its proven experience in hosting major international events also played an essential role. Another important element was the overall concept presented by the city with a compact urban layout that keeps all important locations within close distance. The high-quality public transport system further strengthened the case for Aalborg, as did the strong local partnerships supporting the project. These include Sport Event Denmark, the national organization responsible for major events, the Danish Trade Union Confederation of North Jutland and the CSIT member organization DAI (Dansk Arbejder Idraetsforbund) with its president Peer Huniche: “It is fantastic that Aalborg has managed to attract such a major and important sporting event. They can be proud of that, and we in DAI are proud as well. We will do our part to make it a huge sports celebration for all Danes as well as participants from across the world, filled with unforgettable memories. Both for the top athletes and for all of us who value strong community.”
