CSIT Single Championships Swimming in Belgium
The next CSIT World Sport Games will take place in June 2025 in Loutraki, Greece. As usual, and finally after the coronavirus pandemic, it will be held every two years. In the years between the World Games, the CSIT member associations regularly organise single championships in various sports. From 26 to 30 August, Ostend in Belgium will be the venue for the ‘CSIT Swimming Championships 2024’ in the ‘Brigitte Becue’ swimming pool. The host is FROS Multisport Flanders.
Top-class sport at a high amateur level
307 swimmers from Italy, Mexico, Austria, France, Iran, the Netherlands, Finland and, of course, Belgium are taking part in this year's swimming championships. ‘Bringing amateur athletes together at this level is a special story. Not only on a sporting level, but also on a social and human level. The athletes grow beyond themselves and friendships are formed. The benefits for everyone are huge,’ says Katja Vranckx, Head of FROS Swimming.
Swimming has a great tradition worldwide
Swimming is a popular sport. You can see that in the large number of participants at all events. And some of the performances are at a really high level, even at amateur level. ‘It was a dream come true to organise an international competition for swimmers in Belgium. It is a high-level competition and a highlight for every swimmer. When organising the CSIT World Sports Games, countries compete for the honour of hosting the Events, as they did recently at the Olympic Games in Paris. It is therefore unique that this time the CSIT Singles Championships can take place in Ostend,’ says Hubert Mattens, President of FROS Swimming and the Organising Committee.
Tradition to tradition
Swimming has one of the largest communities not only in the CSIT, but worldwide. This is confirmed time and again by the very large number of participants. ‘It is a great honour for the CSIT to organise the 2024 championships in Belgium. FROS has always participated in all our CSIT Swimming Championships and for this reason, the World Federation has supported FROS‘ candidacy from the very beginning to recognise their long-standing presence and their great ability to organise sporting events,’ said Roberto Vecchione, Chairman of the CSIT Swimming Technical Commission.
