CSIT at the European Sports Forum

Exchange of experience between the EU Commission and the world of sport

CSIT President Bruno Molea and Valeria Gherardini, the head of International Projects within the CSIT, as well as ICSBF President Elisabeth Speiser were guests at the EU Sports Forum 2025, which took place in Krakow this week due to Poland's current EU Presidency. The European Sports Forum is a valuable and very important instrument in the cooperation and exchange of experience between the EU Commission and the world of sport. One of the many guests was the former IOC President Thomas Bach.

The annual EU Sport Forum is the European Commission’s flagship event shaping the future of sport at the European level. As a powerhouse for policy debate and collaboration, the Forum featured European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef. It was a unique opportunity to unite key players in defining EU sport policy together – from European institutions, European and international sport federations, Olympic committees, and sport national ministries to grassroots organisations, athletes, and volunteers.

The aim of the Sports Forum is to facilitate a dialogue between the EU Commission, the EU Member States and the European sports movement in the field of sport. Participants in the annual meeting include governmental and non-governmental representatives of sport from the EU Member States, representatives of the EU Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the Association of European National Olympic Committees and the Association of European Non-Governmental Sports Organisations.

The EU Sport Forum is the main platform for structured dialogue between the European Commission and sport stakeholders. Bringing everyone together to discuss challenges, opportunities and the future of sport in the EU. This European Commission-led initiative allows representatives from public policy, EU institutions, private enterprises, education institutions and other experts to discuss challenges, opportunities and the future of sport in the EU.

The main objectives are to take stock of progress achieved in implementing the EU agenda for sport and seek stakeholders’ views on current and planned or possible future activities. Collaboration takes place via high-level group discussions and panels on themes such as anti-doping, corruption, discrimination, mobility and many others. The EU Sport Forum is a critical initiative for experts seeking to meet the challenges facing the world of sport. Leaders in the field can expect a greater understanding of how sport is adapting to issues of economy, scale and innovation in the EU and beyond.
